Seat Belt Fitment
Will this seat belt fit my vehicle?
RetroBelt® seat belts are designed to cover as many applications as possible. However, we cannot tell you with certainty that our aftermarket seat belt systems will fit your vehicle. These are not OE (original equipment) seat belts. We have no access to OE parts such as buckles or female belt ends. Our belts are not made to work with OE components or sensors. Seat belts must always be replaced as a complete system – never “mix and match” components from different manufacturers.
We can tell you how to measure your vehicle or your existing belt system to achieve the best possible replacement, and we have digital copies of our installation guidelines available to assist you in your installation. Remember, many installations – particularly in vehicles that never had seat belts – will require advanced fabrication skills. Always have your seat belts installed by a professional installer.
First, determine how your existing seat belts mount to your vehicle, and verify there will be room to install your RetroBelt® seat belts. Newer vehicles often hide retractors behind plastic panels; in most instances our seat belts will not work in these vehicles.
Next, determine what length of seat belt you will need by measuring from anchor point to anchor point. Our lap belt kits come in 60-inch and 75-inch lengths. Our retractable lap belts feature 43 inches of webbing on retractor side and 27, 20 or 12 inches on the buckle side depending on the specific model. Our lap and shoulder belts have over 11 feet of webbing on the retractor side and 27, 20 or 12 inches on the buckle side. In most cases bucket seats would use the 12-inch buckle and bench seats either the 27 or 20-inch buckles.
For retractable lap belts, the retractor should mount on the pillar or on the floor in a vertical position. For retractable lap and shoulder belts the retractor is mounted on the pillar or on the floor directly beneath the shoulder anchor point. Make sure there is sufficient room for the retractor. Check to make certain the webbing path is unimpeded. For floor mounting, we offer “L” brackets to mount the retractor in a vertical position.
How to Measure Your Seat Belts
Retractable Lap Belts
- Measure from the buckle side mounting point to approximately 2.5 inches (64mm) above the seat.
Non Retractable Lap Belts
- While seated, measure from the buckle side mounting point to approximately the center between your hips.
- While seated, measure from the belt side mounting point to the center between your hips.
3-Point Belts
- Measure from the buckle side mounting point to 2.5 inches above the seat.
- With the belt buckled, measure the total distance between each mounting point and the buckle – starting at and ending at the retractor.
